Hollow Knight in 2026: Still Worth Playing After Silksong?
Hollow Knight drops you into a dead bug kingdom with a tiny nail and almost no instructions. It’s moody, beautiful and a little cruel, and it’s why the game still has such a loyal fanbase.
The loop is explore, fight, find a shortcut, hit a wall, come back stronger. You learn the world by wandering, and the game trusts you to work things out. It’s easy to start, but it asks for patience.
What works is the feel. Combat is precise, bosses are memorable, and the charm system lets you shape your playstyle. The art and music do a lot of the storytelling, and the map rewards curiosity.
How it runs: It’s a 2D game, so it’s generally easy to run on low-end PCs and handhelds. I didn’t find anything that suggests heavy hardware demands.
Downsides: difficulty spikes can be harsh, you can get lost for hours, and backtracking sometimes drags. Dying means retrieving your shade, which some people love and some hate.
But honestly, that’s not really the point.
Silksong came out on September 4, 2025, but that doesn’t make the original less worth playing. If anything, it’s the best way to find out whether this style of game is for you.
Verdict: Yes, it’s worth it if you like exploration and tough bosses. If you hate getting lost or punishing games, be ready to use a map guide.
